Although you’re originally from Tunisia, where do you live now?
I’ve lived on the Riviera since 2004, first the Italian Riviera, and now the French one, in Nice. I work in the Principality of Monaco, which is where my company is based. Of course, I travel back and forth a lot between the Riviera and Tunisia.

Why did you move to France?
Love makes you do crazy things! I met my husband in Tunisia and we just decided to move to Nice. I always follow my instincts! Love is the most important thing in the world.

What do you love most about the French Riviera lifestyle?
What I love most is there are so many different lifestyles within a few kilometers. The Riviera is an incredible place with stunning scenery, where the Alps fall abruptly in the Mediterranean sea. There are so many contrasts. In areas where the seaside is very urbanised, chic, and glamorous, you just have to drive for five minutes to be in a different world with a different pace of life. Even skiing is just 90 minutes away.

There are so many different cultures on the Riviera. It is always the “Dolce Vita”, but nowhere is quite the same. Even on the coast, Cannes is very different from Nice, and Monaco and Italy, although just 30 minutes apart, are different countries with different histories and ways of life. I should add that while Monaco is known for its wealth and glamour, there is much more to it than just this image, and it benefits from a very peculiar culture which takes time to fully comprehend. That’s why I chose Monaco for my label, BARAA.
